The MiniTool ShadowMaker is one of the most reliable backup software programs that I’ve found for free. It runs on Microsoft Windows and you may use this to create system and disk backups which also can be automated.
The primary function of the program is that you can create a backup of any physical disk from your computer and it can run without compromising features like compression, encryption or verification. You can also use the program to create a bootable recovery media, disk cloning, and different backup schemes.
Once you fire up the program you will find the main interface to be very simple and easy to learn. First you will be asked what device you want to configure for back up: your local machine or another computer in the network which you can remotely connect to. Then you may select any available tools to get you started.
You can create a recovery media right away which you can use to boot the PC to restore a backup you previously created. The backup creation dialog is very simple and straight forward: you select a system disk then point it towards the target disk.
There are different backup schemes that are also available but the default backup scheme creates one full back up and three incremental backups to save disk space on the target disk. You can also choose to schedule backup jobs hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly as well. The program will keep track of the jobs and save information in logs that you can access anytime.
For a free program, it’s very handy and packed with useful features especially if you are a power user who needs to back up and restore systems a lot. It lets you encrypt and verify backups, as well as create recovery media so that you can restore devices that fails to boot. I’d give this program a full thumbs up.
